Prescription Painkiller Tramadol ‘Claiming More Lives Than Any Other Drug’
There have been some talks and according to the top pathologist of Northern Ireland, the prescription painkiller tramadol is claiming thousands of lives of people every day. In fact, this drug is so dangerous that it takes even more lives than heroin and cocaine.
However, you need to know that the painkiller will not harm you if you take it in the right way. However, the danger will be worse if you mix it with other drugs and alcohol.
In fact, only last year, 33 deaths in Northern Ireland were connected with the consumption of tramadol. Among these people were a 16-year-old girl and a pensioner in his 70s.
Tramadol- A Very Dangerous Drug
People seem like they do not realize how dangerous is to take tramadol. This is due to the sole fact that this painkiller is a prescription drug and people just assume that it is safe to take.
This opiate-based drug has been used to treat moderate or severe pain and it needs to be available only on prescription. In fact, it was reclassified in 2014 and it was made illegal Class C drug without prescription.
Nevertheless, anti-drug campaigners claim that even more and more people are turning to the black market to procure this painkiller.
Professor Jack Crane has spoken out and he is saying that he is scared that more people might die if we do not take some urgent action. This is why he is calling for a crackdown on the illegal market. He also wants tramadol to be upgraded again and this time to Class A drug.
This professor is supposed to meet Northern Ireland’s Chief Medical Officer later this month to push for change when it comes to this painkiller. So, let us hope that everything goes well. If not, we recommend you to be extra careful when taking this drug. It could save your life.
